NEBRASKA MEDICAL CENTER PROGRAM (WITH BELLEVUE MEDICAL CENTER)

Start Date: Thursday, January 26th, 2017 6:00-7:30pm

Location: Bellevue Medical Center, 2500 Bellevue Medical Center Dr., Bellevue, NE 68123 (locations will change from week to week)

Cost: $30

The Nebraska Medical Center will provide the opportunity for you to explore healthcare careers in multiple healthcare settings. Your learning experience will be shared by like-minded students who have expressed a similar interest. The Explorer Post will meet 6 times throughout the Spring of 2017 with meetings scheduled on Thursdays from 6:00 PM- 7:30 PM. These sessions will introduce you to the vast amount of opportunities in healthcare though interactive activities related to the careers.

 

UNL DURHAM SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING PROGRAM (THIS PROGRAM IS ON THE UNO CAMPUS)

Start Date: Wednesday, February 8th, 2017 from 6:30-7:30pm

Location: Peter Kiewit Institute on UNO Campus, 1110 S. 67th St., Omaha, NE 68182

Cost: $30

Explorer students are given the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities focused on engineering education including the use of science, technology, and mathematical applications to solve real-life problems related to the engineering, design, and construction of a building.

 

OMAHA WORLD HERALD JOURNALISM PROGRAM—THIS PROGRAM IS ALMOST FULL!

Start Date: Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 from 6:00-7:30pm

Location: Omaha World Herald, 1314 Douglas St, Omaha, NE 68102

Cost: $30

This program will focus on the fun and varied work of a newspaper reporter/photography/editor and will include tips on reporting and writing, photography and other elements. Students will work together (or alone if they wish) to cover news events for the web. We will encourage students to write a story, shoot photos or take video. There will be no tests or grades, but students need to bring paper and a pencil and come ready to work. The seven-session post will be fast-paced, fun and blow by quickly. You will meet in the World-Herald lobby at 1314 Douglas Street.

 

CREIGHTON PHARMACY PROGRAM (THIS EVENT IS A 1-DAY PROGRAM)

Start Date: Saturday, April 22nd, 2017 from 9:00am-4:00pm (lunch included)

Location: Creighton University Campus (directions sent out before event)

Cost: $30

If you are interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy, please join us for our Pharmacy Exploring Program at Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. We are excited to offer you the opportunity to explore three separate pharmacy settings including community, ambulatory care, and hospital. The purpose of this program is to introduce high school students to pharmacy as a possible career option through guest speakers, discussions with professional students, and various hands-on learning experiences. Some of the activities that will be covered include compounding medications such as creams and suspensions, assessing blood pressures, counseling on over-the-counter medications, and observing the mixture of intravenous medications. At the end of our session, you will use the skills you have learned to compete against fellow Explorers for the title of Best Pharmacy Explorer. You must be able to commit to the entire 7-hour session in order to enroll for our Pharmacy Exploring Program. Upon completion of our Pharmacy Exploring Program, you will understand the importance of teamwork in the healthcare setting, improve your leadership skills, and develop relationships with other like-minded high school students. Additionally, we encourage you to include our Pharmacy Exploring Program on your resume as you will receive a formal certificate of completion.

 

We also have some more spring programs coming that are getting final dates solidified.

 

SCHOOL OF ROCK PROGRAM-SPRING SESSION

Location: School of Rock, 13270 Millard Ave, Omaha, NE 68137

Cost: $30

Are you ready to discover the exciting world of the Omaha music scene? Join the School of Rock and learn about different career paths that you can take with music! This post will have an emphasis on education with music and discovering the many career options there are in the field. Students will meet once a week in the evenings over the course of six weeks. Students will learn about recording in studios, teaching music to others, light and sound, backline, Broadway productions, opera and constructing parts of instruments. There will also be a panel of music instructors to help answer career questions and provide exclusive insight into the field. You do not need to play an instrument to participate in this program. Join us and learn how you can make a career out of music!

 

VETERINARY SCIENCE PROGRAM-SPRING SESSION

A collaboration between the Nebraska Humane Society, Dr. Van Horn, Dr. Carlson and Wildlife Encounters would like to invite you to participate in our Veterinary Exploring Program this spring. The Exploring program contributes to the healthy development of today’s young adults by providing them with the environment, resources, and relationships they need to learn and grow, as well as to become more aware of the requirements and skills needed in a particular career field. Program sessions will be lecture and discussion including exclusive insight into the different paths veterinary medicine can take you.
