GRETNA, Neb., Sept. 9 – Gretna High School’s student-run journalism program is celebrating a major milestone this week: the Gretna Media Instagram account has surpassed 2,000 followers.
The account, managed by senior Avery Hansen, has become a hub for photos, videos, and stories highlighting life at Gretna High School. Just one year ago, the account had approximately 1,200 followers. Its rapid growth reflects the program’s focus on producing engaging, student-centered content.
“There is a lot of time and effort given to our Instagram page because it’s the fastest and easiest way to reach a large part of the ccommunity,” Hansen said. “It’s important to me - and all of our staff - to hit these milestones, because it reminds us that we’re making a difference. That’s what our student media is always trying to accomplish.”
The Gretna Media Instagram account features daily snapshots of student activities, classroom life, athletics, and special events, capturing the achievements and personalities of both students and staff. The online media staff of 21 students all contribute to the gretnamedia.com website which helps provide content for Instagram as well.
Journalism adviser Tim Kaldahl praised the accomplishment.
“What Avery has built is remarkable,” Kaldahl said. “It’s not just about followers. it’s about building pride in Gretna High School and telling our story in real time.”
