Gretna Public Schools is pleased to announce leadership transitions at Gretna High School, naming Matthew Curtis as Assistant Principal and Joshua Gibbs as the school’s Activities Director and Assistant Principal, with Gibbs succeeding Curtis in the Activities Director role. These leadership transitions reflect Gretna Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to strong programs, student success, and effective school leadership across the district.
Mr. Curtis has served as Activities Director at Gretna High School since 2019 and brings more than 26 years of experience in education, leadership, and administration. In his new role as Assistant Principal, he will expand his work with students and promote student engagement, helping strengthen connections between school life and student success at Gretna High School.
Gretna High School Principal Theresa Huttmann said, “We are excited to welcome Matt Curtis as Assistant Principal. Over the past seven years, he has worked closely with coaches and student-athletes to build programs centered on growth, character, and belonging. In this role, he will expand his impact by working directly with students and supporting staff to strengthen teaching and learning.”
Mr. Gibbs will step into the role of Activities Director and Assistant Principal, bringing extensive experience in athletics, student programs, coaching, and team leadership. He currently works as a special education teacher at Gretna High School and has previously held leadership roles in the Special Education Department at Millard Public Schools. More recently, he served as an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Gretna High School. His leadership and dedication have supported student, coach, and staff success while promoting a positive, student-centered school culture.
Huttmann added, “We are excited to name Josh Gibbs as our new Assistant Principal and Activities Director. He has already made a strong impression through his collaborative approach, communication, and enthusiasm for students and staff. His experience in youth sports and as an assistant coach will help him continue building on the positive traditions of our activities and athletics programs.”
Superintendent Travis Lightle shared his appreciation for both leaders and their impact on Gretna High School: “We are incredibly fortunate to transition these two dedicated leaders into their new roles, as they both possess a deep understanding of the Gretna High School community. Their combined experience is impressive, but it is their genuine character and unwavering commitment to our students that make them the perfect fit for these new roles.”
As Activities Director and Assistant Principal, Mr. Gibbs will oversee athletic and extracurricular programs, support coaches and sponsors, and foster a positive, student-centered culture at Gretna High School. These transitions reflect the school’s ongoing commitment to strong student programs and leadership.
